Vladimir Putin, who has been on a working visit to Kamchatka, held a meeting on the long-term socio-economic development of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on the peninsula, at which Governor Vladimir Solodov presented a master plan for developing the regional capital.

According to him, the basis of the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Master Plan includes a strategy for the economic development of the city and the creation of new jobs in modern sectors, as well as social services and the concept of an urban development plan.

'I would like to thank VEB.RF for assisting in this work, KB Strelka was the main developer, as well as Vitaly Leontievich Mutko and DOM.RF, also included in a separate series of urban planning decisions,' said Vladimir Solodov. He noted that the plan would require substantial funding.

'By 2025, the total amount is RUB 32.9 bn. I would like to emphasise here that we are already in the process of agreeing on a number of decisions for inclusion in federal programmes: both for roads and for a number of other areas. A large part of the money could be released in the case of a regasification project: we could then redirect the money we are currently spending on fuel oil to improving the city centre. And, of course, the Far Eastern concession mechanisms have been worked out, we would ask that through such a linkage of all the mechanisms that we have, we support the master plan and enable us to build, to realise its truly outstanding potential in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky by 2030,' said the governor.

At the meeting, the head of the region also highlighted the main industries to be developed—fishing, tourism and shipbuilding—and talked about plans to change the centre of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

The meeting's participants, who included members of the Russian government and business representatives, proposed initiatives to finance the work and gasification of the region.

As a reminder, the plan for the long-term socio-economic development of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky will make it possible to unlock the potential of the regional capital.

The proposed directions for the spatial development of the regional capital are aimed at changing the spatial structure of the agglomeration and creating the conditions for successful economic growth of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky as a city with a modern economy and environment. Thus, one of the key objectives is to make the city's main natural attractions—the hills and the ocean—accessible to citizens and tourists. In addition, it is about the integrated development of existing and new buildings, which will create an attractive living environment in the city and meet modern quality standards for the urban environment.
